The Nacktfußsalangane ( Aerodramus nuditarsus ) is a little-known species from the tribe of Salanganen (Collocaliini). It occurs in New Guinea .

features

The barefoot salangana reaches a body length of 14 cm. The top is dark brown with light fringes on the reins and above the eyes. The underside is uniformly soot gray. However, the color of the feather branches can vary. The rump is plain. The tarsi are not feathered. The tail is slightly forked. From the closely related Papuan Salangane ( Aerodramus papuensis ), the bare-foot salangane differs in its matt upper surface and the presence of four toes.

distribution

The bare-footed salangan occurs in the south and southeast of New Guinea. Well-known localities are the Mimika River, the Snow Mountains, Mount Goliath, the Kubor Mountains and the area around Hall Sound near Baroka. The breeding areas are assumed to be in the western highlands north of the catchment area in the Schrader Range.

Habitat and way of life

The Nacktfußsalange predominantly lives in the mountainous region at altitudes of 1500 to 2300 m. However, one specimen was also collected in the lowlands at a height of 30 m. The barefoot salangana eats its insect food in flight. No more is known about their way of life.
