geography

The peninsula forms the southernmost tip of St. Kitts. It extends from the "knob" of the "pan handle" of Saint George Basseterre to the south into the strait The Narrows . The headland is a former volcanic ridge, which rises in the very south to about 100  m ; further north, on the edge of the Great Salt Pond , the ridge reaches its greatest height at approx. 140  m . The headland is constricted by the bays Shitten Bay (in the west) and Majors Bay (in the east). Crab Hole and Buggs Hole used to be popular berths for smugglers. The Horseshoe Point is an important nautical milestone.
