Middle East Archive Heidelberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heidelberg Middle East Archive (NOAH) has been affiliated with the Heidelberg Palmyra Verlag since 1989 . The main concern of the archive with its library is to offer a broad spectrum of information to anyone interested in the Middle East or the Arab - Islamic world . The determining factor here is u. a. the need for a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - including the Palestinians' right to a state of their own - and a dialogue between the West and the Arab-Islamic world.

In addition to books on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ( Middle East conflict ) and the Arab world, the archive's library also includes books on the subjects of Islam and Judaism . It has around 3500 books and around 600 brochures (as of June 2018). In addition, there are several hundred historical and current travel literature publications as well as magazine articles on the aforementioned collection areas. In addition to Arabic and Hebrew-language publications, books from bequests - including those of Rupert Neudeck and various Middle East scholars - are also part of the archive. The library receives around 200 new additions each year. The entire book inventory is recorded in a printed, regularly updated brochure and can also be viewed online on the Palmyra Verlag website under »Middle East Archives«.

In addition to the library, the Middle East Archive in Heidelberg also includes one of the largest German video archives with several thousand hours of film material on the main topics specified, as well as an extensive newspaper, magazine and photo archive. It also offers various research and service offers. Among other things, it mediates national and international Middle East contacts - also in Israel and Palestine - in the fields of politics, culture, civil society, science, media and alternative tourism for individuals and organizations. In addition, the NOAH archives newsletters and other Internet publications of important domestic and foreign Middle East institutions such as embassies, research institutes, foundations, societies, solidarity and aid organizations, etc.

The politically independent Middle East Archive is managed by the Palmyra publisher Georg Stein.
