Nakhla Tobacco ( Arabic نخلة, DMG Naḫla  'Palme') is an Egyptian tobacco manufacturer that produces flavored tobacco for shishas (water pipes) as well as shishas and other tobacco products.

Company history

In 1913 Saleh Mohammed El Ibiary founded a factory for the processing and production of the so-called "Mu'assal" (a strong, unflavored, black tobacco - today available under the name "Zaghloul") in his place of birth Shebin El-Kom (Egypt) . He managed the factory until 1955, after which his son Adel Ahmed Saleh El Ibiary took over the factory. This brought new types of tobacco onto the market, which nevertheless had the "typical Egyptian" taste. The first product from this new range was Muassel El-Zaghloul and quickly became popular. After the success, El Ibiary began to sell its products worldwide. Today Nakhla Tobacco is one of the most successful shisha tobacco producers in the world. According to a report by the shisha trade magazine hookahMag , 55–60 percent of the tobacco production volume is intended for export. The rest is exclusively for the Egyptian market. According to Atef El Ibiary, the company's export manager, the export share to Germany was around one percent of the production volume in 2006.

The Aladin company from Wiesbaden is the general importer of the Nakhla company in Germany and sells the entire product line as a wholesaler.

Nakhla Tobacco had a worldwide sales volume of tobacco products of 24,000 tons in 2011 and was taken over by the international tobacco, food and pharmaceutical company Japan Tobacco in March 2013 .
