Naksansa ( Kor.  낙산사 , Hanja  洛 山寺 ) or Naksan Temple is a Buddhist temple complex of the Jogye Order in South Korea . The facility on the slope of Mount Naksan (also called "Obongsan") offers a spectacular view of the Sea of Japan . It is halfway between Sokcho and Yangyang .

Naksansa was founded in 671 AD and has significant art treasures. The complex is dominated by the 15 m high granite statue of the Goddess of Mercy Haesugwaneumsang, created in 1977.

The temple complex was largely destroyed by a forest fire on April 5, 2005 . The 15th century temple bell melted. As after earlier destruction (by the Mongols in the 13th century and from 1953 after the Korean War ), Naksansa was largely rebuilt true to the original.
