background

The Kingdom of Baekje was one of the most influential domains in the central southwest of Korea from the 1st to the 7th centuries. In the 7th century, Baekje lost much of its dominance due to the increasing dominance of the neighboring kingdom of Silla . An attack by Silla together with the Chinese in 660 AD sealed the fall of the Baekje kingdom.

Legend

A painting on the Goransa tells of the legend of the "falling flowers".

In the course of the hostile takeover of the Baekje Kingdom, around 3,000 civil servants are said to have thrown themselves to their deaths from Nakwaam Rock in the Paengmagang River. They accepted death rather than fall into the clutches of the enemy. The Nakwaam has always been called the "rock of falling flowers", based on the women of the Baekje kingdom who plunged into suicide.
