Nalagarh (also Hindur ) was one of the princely states at the foot of the Shimla Hills in the Himalayan foothills in the Punjab States Agency of British India . Its capital was the place Nalagarh .
The Chandella - Rajput principality was founded in 1100 by Raja Ajai Chand, a son of the Raja Kahan Chand of Kahlur ( Bilaspur ). From 1803–15 it was occupied by Nepal and from 1815–1947 it was a British protectorate .
In 1901 the principality had an area of 715 km² and 52,500 inhabitants. The Raja joined the Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU) on July 15, 1948, and joined India on August 20, 1948. On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved and Nalagarh part of the state of Himachal Pradesh .
