The Namneten ( lat. Namnetes) were a Celtic - Gallic tribe . They are first mentioned in writing by the Roman general Julius Caesar in his report De Bello Gallico about his wars in Gaul .

Settlement area

The Namneten settled between Angers and the Loire estuary. Since 500 BC There were Celts in this area. Around the year 70 BC The Namneten expelled the local native Celts. Already in the year 56 BC The Roman army of Julius Caesar defeated the Namneten.
