Nancy Birdsall (born February 6, 1946 ) is an American economist, the founding president of the Center for Global Development (CGD) in Washington, DC and the former vice president of the Inter-American Development Bank .

Birdsall concluded in 1979 her studies in economics at Yale with the doctoral (Ph.D.) from.

She co-founded the Center for Global Development (CGD) with C. Fred Bergsten and Edward W. Scott, Jr. in November 2001.

Prior to becoming President of CGD, Birdsall was the director of the Economic Reform Project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace for three years . Her work there focused in particular on globalization and inequality, but the reform of international financial institutions was also one of her interests. From 1993 to 1998 she was with the Inter-American Development Bank, the largest of the regional development banks . Before that, Birdsall worked for the World Bank for 14 years , most recently as Director of the Policy Research Department .

Birdsall is the author, co-author, or editor of more than a dozen books and over 100 articles in journals and monographs.

She has two daughters and one son.
