In 1984 Air Canada started its frequent flyer program under the name Aeroplan . In the late 1990s, the airline separated from its frequent flyer program and spun it off into an independent company . In 2002, Aeroplan was finally separated from Air Canada. That was the first step towards the new company. The company subsequently diversified .
In 2008, which was Aeroplan to Groupe Aeroplan renamed.
In 2010, Groupe Aeroplan launched Nectar Italia in Italy .
In 2011, Groupe Aeroplan was renamed to Aimia .
