Nancy Chaney

Nancy Chaney (* 1955 in Seattle , Washington ) is the mayor of Moscow in the US state of Idaho .

Born in Seattle and raised near San Francisco , Nancy Chaney attended high school and college in Boise , Idaho. In 1977 she completed her training as a nurse, followed by a bachelor's degree in psychology at Boise State University in 1979 . In 1980 Chaney moved to Moscow and worked as a nurse until she successfully completed a master's degree in environmental science at the University of Idaho there in 2002 . Since 1998 she and her husband have been running a company that sells veterinary ophthalmic products.

Nancy Chaney discovered local politics after completing her master's degree. From 2003 she was on the Moscow City Council. In November 2005, Chaney was elected mayor for the first time with 51.78% of the vote; she won re-election four years later (2009) with a narrower margin of only forty votes or 50.48%. As mayor, she campaigns for health and environmental issues, among other things. Moscow is participating in the Let's Move! Program initiated by Michelle Obama . Cities, Towns and Counties , which aims to ensure healthy nutrition for children. Nancy Chaney was also invited to the White House along with other local politicians who supported this program.
