Nancy Ruth

Nancy Ruth , CM (born January 6, 1942 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian politician.

Nancy Ruth was on 24 March 2005 by Prime Minister Paul Martin to Senator appointed for Ontario. Nancy Ruth is a member of the Conservative Party and was a member of the Progressive-Conservative Party before the merger . Nancy Ruth was the first openly lesbian Senator in Canada. On January 5, 2017, she resigned from the Canadian Senate when she reached the age of 75.

Prior to being named Senator, Nancy Ruth founded various women's rights organizations, notably the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund and Canadian Women's Foundation . She established women's studies at Mount Saint Vincent University . In 1994, Nancy Ruth was named a member of the Order of Canada .

Nancy Ruth fought against the Charlottetown Accord in 1992 and is an opponent of pornography. The same-sex marriage in Canada is in favor of it.
