Narayan Van Maele

Narayan Van Maele (* 1986 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg photographer and cameraman. He lives in Ireland.

Life

Narayan Van Maele was born in Luxembourg to a Belgian father and a Sri Lankan mother. Together with his older brother Govinda Van Maele , he grew up in a small village in Gutland . At the age of 16 he left Luxembourg and moved to Ireland. He attended the National Film School (IADT) in Dublin and graduated with a First Class Honor in Cinematography in 2009 . In the same year he took part in the Berlinale Talents .

After graduating, he worked in his adopted country of Ireland and abroad as a photographer for the advertising industry, filmed music videos, short and documentary films and occasionally directed himself. He was also involved as a cameraman in all of Govinda Van Maele's films, the last time in the feature film Gutland . In 2016 he was part of the film team of the Iranian director Pasha Rafiy, who accompanied the Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn on his trips abroad. The documentary Foreign Affairs premiered in 2017 in Nyon at the Visions du Réel festival.
