The Narrabeen Lake , also Narabeen Lagoon called, is a lagoon-like estuary , which in the suburb of Narrabeen of the Australian city of Sydney in New South Wales is located.
geography
Narrabeen Lake is bordered to the south by Narrabeen , Cromer and the Collaroy Plateau , to the north by North Narrabeen and Elanora Hights and to the west by the nature reserve of Garigal National Park . The three islands that are in the lake are not inhabited. Only the Sanctuary Island is named.
Estuary
The access to the estuary from the sea is only 30 meters wide and is often closed by wind and waves that carry sand with them. If the access is closed by sand, the tidal range is blocked, which ensures the required water quality and biodiversity of the water body. From 1975 to 2011, large amounts of sand that prevented the tidal range were removed at the confluence with the Tasman Sea nine times . In 2016, around 50,000 tons of sand were removed from the estuary estuary.
leisure
Narrabeen Lake is a recreational area of Sydney and is used for hiking, fishing, windsurfing, sailing and boating. The 8.4-kilometer Narrabeen Lagoon Trail runs along the shores of the lagoon.
