Building and exhibition
The Narsaq Museum is an open air museum that is mainly located on a small peninsula in the city center, but has a few other locations in the city as well. The following eight to nine buildings belong to the museum:
- B-49 : The 1928 building was the first store in Narsaq. Today it includes an exhibition on the economic development of Greenland from hunting to industrialized country since the 1950s.
- B-57 : The building was built in 1848 as a bacon house. Since 2013, it has included the museum's mineralogical collection, largely donated by Børge Brodersen.
- B-58 : The building was built around 1900 as a residential building and later belonged to the trade. Today it belongs to the museum, but does not contain an exhibition.
- B-59 : The building was built in 1920 as a residence for the Udsteds administrator and was later the post office. Today it is a traditional workers' house.
- B-61 : The building is the oldest in the city and served as the home of the Udsteds administrator from around 1830. Today it houses the Frederik Høegh Printing Museum , an art exhibition and a replica of an old shop in the attic.
- B-84 : The building is even older than B-61, was first erected in Alluitsoq in 1774 , but has only been in Narsaq since 1907. It now serves as the museum's office building, but also has an exhibition on the Grænlendingar .
- B-98 : The building was built around 1950, was the city's first power station and later served as a café, pizzeria and furniture store. Today it is used by the museum for cultural events and also houses an exhibition on the Grænlendingar.
- B-430 : The building is Henrik Lund's old home . It has been administered by the museum as a memorial for him since 1980.
- B-1315 : The building is a reconstruction of a traditional peat wall house, completed in 1992.
With the exception of B-98 and B-1315, all buildings are protected. For detailed descriptions of the history and architecture of the individual buildings, see the list of architectural monuments in Narsaq .
