Nathanael Ernst Dauter

Nathanael Ernst Dauter (born February 11, 1756 in Old Scotland (Polish Stare Szkoty ) near Danzig ; † February 1, 1813 in Danzig) was a German doctor and naturalist in Danzig.

Life

Together with his Gdansk friend Nathanael Berendt , Dauter began studying medicine at the Georg-August University in Göttingen when he matriculated on October 7, 1776 , where he was recorded in numerous family books for the period up to 1780 . His silhouette as a student is preserved in the Schubert silhouette collection in the Göttingen SUB . After of August Gottlieb Richter supervised doctorate med. et. chir. On the subject of the cold water cure , he went on a scientific journey with Behrendt, which took them through Edinburgh, London and Paris. In Edinburgh he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh . After returning to Danzig he became a city ​​physician there . Like his lifelong friend and doctor colleague Behrendt, he was an active member of the Natural Research Society in Danzig , which he chaired for many years and for which he took over the organization of the first balloon ascent in Danzig in 1784 . Dauter was also a member of the Leopoldina (since September 23, 1794; cogn. "Diogenianus"). He died of dropsy .
