Nathaniel Buchanan

Nathaniel Buchanan (* 1826 near Dublin , Ireland , † September 23, 1901 in Walcha , Australia ) was an Australian cattle farmer, drover and explorer of Scottish descent. He became known for exploring parts of the Northern Territory and Queensland with William Landsborough .

biography

Buchanan was born near Dublin, but is of Scottish descent. His father was Lieutenant Charles Henry Buchanan, his wife a nee White. In 1832 the family emigrated to New South Wales , Australia. He soon became co-owners of the Bald Blair station cattle ranch together with two brothers . In 1850 the Buchanan brothers traveled to the United States because of the California gold rush . When they returned a short time later, they found that they had lost their farm due to mismanagement. In the next few years Buchanan extensive experience made as a cattle driver ( drover ).
