Nathaniel Thomas Allen Fiennes, 21st Baron Saye and Sele (born September 22, 1920 ) is a British peer , politician and businessman.

Origin and family environment

The Fiennes family is an old Anglo-Norman aristocratic family that plays an important role in politics, business and, more recently, in science and culture (e.g. in the art of acting by Ralph Fiennes ). He was born on September 22, 1920 to Ivo Murray Thwistleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 20th Baron Saye and Sele and Hersey Cecilia Hester Butler. In 1965 he took the surname Fiennes through deed poll , so dropped the surname components Thwistleton and Wykeham .

His baron title was created in the Peerage of England in 1447 and confirmed again in 1603. Counted from 1447 onwards he is the 21st baron, in alternative counting from 1603 he is the 15th baron.

During the Second World War he did military service in the Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own) from 1941 until his demobilization in 1949, most recently with the rank of major . From 1982 to 1990 he was regional director of Lloyd's Bank, from 1960 to 1995 trustee of the Ernest Cook Trust (of which from 1964 to 1990 as chairman) and from 1961 to 1983 a fellow of Winchester College . After his father's death on October 21, 1968, he inherited his title of nobility and the associated seat in the House of Lords . In Hansard no speeches in Parliament by him are recorded.
