Reservoir in the Nathebach valley

The Nathebachtal is located in the Dortmund district of Aplerbecker Mark in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is named after the Nathebach that runs there .

description

The approximately eight hectare area is a typical Quellbach valley with forest and unfertilized wet meadows . It begins at the heights of the Schwerter / Aplerbecker forest on the border of the Dortmund districts of Berghofen and Aplerbecker Mark around the source of the Nathebach there and extends north to the dammed rain retention basin in the Osterbruch . The water level in the stream is heavily dependent on precipitation. On the edge of the area there are some dry sheep pastures where rare and protected species grow. Otherwise, it is home to many species of amphibians, dragonflies, insects, and birds. The amphibian species spawn in the numerous pools in the Nathebachtal as well as in the pools in the Aplerbeck forest. In 2002, Aplerbecker Waldstrasse was closed to through traffic and an amphibious tunnel was built for them. Parts of the Bachtal are described in the biotope register of the LANUV as a biotope worthy of protection .

In the 1980s, the stream course , which was straightened with concrete floors in the 1970s, was renatured by the Emschergenossenschaft , the city of Dortmund and committed residents . The immediate cause was flooding in the district. The Sauerland Mountain Association has been sponsoring the Bachtal since 1991, and it also offers hikes on the Aplerbeck circular trail that passes there .

The planimetrically determined center of North Rhine-Westphalia is located in the area of the Gurlittstrasse in the Nathebachtal .
