The Nathebach is a 2.8 km long orographic left or southern tributary of the Emscher in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

It rises in the south of the Dortmund district of Aplerbecker Mark, east of federal highway 236 on the border with Berghofen and initially flows about one kilometer north through the Nathebach valley . Forest and unfertilized wet meadows predominate here. In the Osterbruch the stream flows into a dammed lake that serves as a rain retention basin . After that, the Nathebach flows in a north-easterly to north-west curve above ground only in individual sections, it is piped under residential streets, an industrial area, the railway line and the school center. It receives further inflows from rainwater discharges and flows into the Emscher, which has been renatured there since 2010 , near the market square of Aplerbeck . The Nathebach has very good water quality. This also reflects the ecosystem around the Nathebach. In addition to the immigrated signal crabs, wild European orchids, numerous amphibians and over 40 songbird species are at home here.

After a flood in the Aplerbecker Mark district caused by heavy rainfall and the then still straightened stream, the stream was renatured in the 1980s. The Emschergenossenschaft and the city of Dortmund took over the costs, the residents and various associations got involved through planting and other activities. In 1991 the Sauerland Mountain Association took over the sponsorship of the Bachtal.
