Leo Schürmann
Leo Schürmann (born April 10, 1917 in Olten ; † December 8, 2002 ibid) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( CVP ).
Life
Schürmann studied law at the University of Basel . In 1939 he received his doctorate as Dr. iur. also at the University of Basel. From 1940 to 1942 he was a clerk in the higher court of the canton of Solothurn . After that he was legal secretary of the Department of the Interior of the Canton of Solothurn until 1947. From 1949 to 1953 he worked as an independent lawyer and then until 1974 as chief judge of Solothurn. From 1957 to 1969 he represented the CVP in the Solothurn Cantonal Council . In 1959 he was elected to the National Council, of which he was a member until 1974. In 1965 he was President of the Military Commission, of which he was a member for five years. From 1964 to 1974 he was President of the Federal Cartel Commission, from 1973 to 1974 first price monitor in Switzerland, from 1974 a member of the board of directors of the National Bank and from 1976 to 1980 the President of the Commission for Emissions Control. In 1973 he was a possible Federal Council candidate. After the immediately preceding election of Willi Ritschard , however, an election was no longer possible due to the cantonal clause ( Hans Hürlimann was elected instead ). From 1981 to 1987 he was General Director of the Swiss Radio and Television Company . Schürmann was also Associate Professor of Business and Administrative Law at the University of Freiburg from 1966 to 1987 .
