National Democratic Congress (Grenada)
National Democratic Congress ( NDC ) is a center-left liberal party based in Grenada . She formed the government from 2008 to 2013 and before that from 1990 to 1995. Nazim Burke is currently the party leader.
history
The party was founded in 1987 by George Brizan and Francis Alexis , in opposition to the government of the New National Party , which formed the government in the 1984 general election after the US invasion of Grenada . The party won the 1990 elections and Nicholas Brathwaite became Prime Minister . In the 1995 general election , however, she lost again to the NNP, probably because the election was held shortly after Brathwaite's resignation. The NDC was then in opposition for 13 years. The party won no seats in the 1999 elections , but only narrowly lost in the 2003 elections , where it won 45.6% of the vote, seven of the 15 seats.
In the 2008 elections , the NDC won 11 out of 15 seats and party leader Tillman Thomas became Prime Minister. Despite a 40% share of the vote in the 2013 election , the party lost all seats to the New National Party under Keith Mitchell , which took back all 15 seats.
The NDC was affiliated with the former Central American Liberal Organization FELICA and has close ties with other center-left parties in English-speaking Caribbean countries, such as the Democratic Labor Party in Barbados .
