National Commission for Data Protection (Luxembourg)

The National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) ( French : Commission Nationale pour la Protection des Données ) is the national authority for data protection in Luxembourg .

The CNPD is an authority that is not subject to instructions and is based in Luxembourg . It was created by the law on the protection of personal data during data processing of August 2, 2002. Her responsibilities include legal control of the processing of personal data, reviewing complaints and advising the government on data protection issues.

The CNPD is a college consisting of three full members and three substitute members. They are appointed and dismissed by the Grand Duke on the proposal of the Government Council. A term of office lasts six years and can be extended once.

The chairman is Gérard Lommel , who also represents Luxembourg in the Article 29 Working Party.

The CNPD is not yet a member of the International Conference of Commissioners for Data Protection and the Protection of Privacy , but was proposed for inclusion at the 27th International Data Protection Conference from September 14 to 16, 2005 in Montreux .
