Leblon is a district in the Zona Sul of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro on the Atlantic coast .
history
The area was mostly inhabited by settlers from France until the Portuguese fought against the French colonization attempts and finally expelled the French. The district remained named after one of the French settlers ( Le Blond ).
location
Leblon borders the districts of Vidigal in the southwest, Gávea in the west, Lagoa in the north and Ipanema in the east. In the south the Atlantic Ocean borders the quarter, the beaches of Leblon and Ipanema are separated by the Canal do Jardim de Alah , which drains the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas . In the west is the widely visible Morro Dois Irmãos . In the northeast is the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
Today Leblon is one of the affluent neighborhoods alongside Ipanema and Copacabana , albeit less well known. During the carnival there are many parades through Leblon. The José Bastos Padilha Stadium is the stadium of the first division team Flamengo in the district . However, it is rarely used.
