Grumari is a district in the Oeste (western zone) of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil .

It is part of the administrative area of Barra da Tijuca . The population is 133 people. The district is known for its long white beaches and its Parque Natural Municipal de Grumari nature reserve .

location

Grumari is located in the west of the city of Rio de Janeiro, directly on the Atlantic Ocean , about 50 kilometers from the center. To the west of it is the Guaratiba district , to the east of it the Recreio dos Bandeirantes district . The coastal road connects both parts of the city through Grumari.

With a population of 167 people, it is the least populated district of Rio de Janeiro, as a large part of its area is taken up by the beach, mountains and dense forests of the Atlantic rainforest. Large parts of the district are under nature protection.

The beaches of Grumari are a popular destination for city dwellers from Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the usual beach activities, they also offer the opportunity to surf the waves . The largest and most famous beach is Praia de Grumari, about three kilometers long, directly on the coastal road. To the east of Praia de Grumari , part of the beach, Praia do Abricó, is a nudist beach. The stalls Praia do Meio , Praia do Perigoso , Praia do Fundo and Praia do Inferno can only be reached via a footpath and are accordingly rarely visited.

On weekends and public holidays it is possible that the access to the beaches of Grumari and Prainha is closed for cars between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in order to preserve nature and prevent traffic chaos, as the number of parking spaces (maximum 800 ) is limited. Access is then only possible on foot or by bike.
