Urca and Praia Vermelha in the foreground

Urca is a district in the south of Rio de Janeiro . The name arose from the abbreviation for the Urbanização Carioca building project in Enseada do Botafogo .

Located at the foot of the Sugar Loaf is the base station of the Bondinho , the cable car to the top of the Sugar Loaf. Behind the famous Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) the climbing path to the Sugar Loaf begins.
