Humaitá is a district ( bairro ) of Rio de Janeiro . It is located in the south of the city and lies between the districts of Botafogo and Jardim Botânico .
As of 2010, 13,285 inhabitants lived here on an area of 105.45 hectares.
The name is derived from the street Rua Humaitá running through Bairro , the name of which recalls a heroic act of river warfare in the battle of Fort Humaitá in the Triple Alliance War . Humaitá has existed as a separate district since July 23, 1981.
