National care guideline

National care guidelines (NVL) are evidence-based medical recommendations for action for structured medical care ( integrated care and disease management program ).

The editors are the German Medical Association , the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians . On behalf of the three organizations, the Medical Center for Quality in Medicine in Berlin has been coordinating the program for National Care Guidelines (NVL program) since 2002 .

There is a patient guideline for every national care guideline. It conveys the contents of the NVL in an understandable form, provides information on the background and causes of the disease and refers to further information sources. And she gives tips for talking to the doctor.

In this context, medical recommendations for action and patient guidelines for important diseases are developed and disseminated. There are health care guidelines on bronchial asthma , chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes mellitus (foot and retinal complications, neuropathy, kidney diseases, structured training programs and therapy), coronary heart disease , lower back pain , heart failure and depression .
