The Medical Center for Quality in Medicine (ÄZQ) is a scientific institute jointly sponsored by the German Medical Association and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians . The ÄZQ was founded in 1995 and has been based in Berlin (previously Cologne ) since 2004 . The chairmen of the board are the president of the German Medical Association and the board chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. The first director of the institute was Günter Ollenschläger from 1995 to March 2014.

The ÄZQ is the joint competence center of the German Medical Association and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians for medical guidelines , patient information , patient safety and evidence-based medicine
The ÄZQ cooperates in the field of guidelines with the working group of scientific medical societies .
The institute is a co-initiator and member of the German Evidence-Based Medicine Network , the Guidelines International Network and the Patient Safety Action Alliance .
