The National Cemetery Chidorigafuchi ( Engl. Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery for Japanese 千鳥ヶ淵戦没者墓苑, Chidorigafuchi Senbotsusha Boen , such as "favor cemetery Chidorigafuchi") in Tokyo was for during the Pacific War created fallen, recovered but unidentified Japanese soldiers.

Overview

The complex was created from 1959 on the outside of the Chidorigafuchi trench ( 千 鳥 ヶ 淵 , Ch on the map) of the Imperial Palace. You can enter the facility in different ways, the main entrance leads past the mast with the Japanese national flag through a transverse, light porch (2). From there a path leads straight ahead to a small hexagonal open hall (1), which was designed by Taniguchi Yoshirō . Below it - and in another place on the site - the bones of 350,000 dead are kept. A commemoration organized by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs is held annually. There are also other commemorative events by various associations.

Location, operator

The address of the cemetery is in Sanbanchō (one of the Banchō ) district of Chiyoda ( Chiyoda-ku ) district of Tokyo ( Tōkyō-to ) prefecture . It is supervised as kokumin kōen (~ "People's Park / National Citizens' Park"; special category for formerly imperial parks and cemeteries) by the Ministry of the Environment of the Japanese national government.
