The National League A is the highest of the three Swiss leagues in baseball. In addition to the National League A (NLA) there is the National League B ( NLB ) and the 1st League.
The NLA consists of a total of eight teams. Each team plays 28 games on 14 match days in the regular season. The four best teams of the NLA play in the playoffs with semi-finals and finals in best-of-five mode for the championship title . The seventh plays against the NLB second and the eighth against the NLB first in a best-of-three series for relegation or promotion (exception: second teams from NLA teams are not allowed to play promotion / relegation games).

Swiss Baseball & Softball Federation (SBSF)
Baseball has also existed in Switzerland since 1980. On November 11th, the first baseball game took place in Reussbühl, Lucerne, between the Lucerne White Sox and the Zurich Challengers. The following year, the exponents of the two clubs, together with the Flyers from Basel and Ceresio, founded a national association, today the Swiss Baseball & Softball Federation (SBSF).
In 1982 a Swiss championship was held for the first time with the Challengers as the first champion. Gradually, more and more clubs were founded, most of which also take part in the Swiss championship. In addition to the national league A, which comprises eight teams, the national league B and the 1st league, championships are also held in various age groups in the youth field. A softball championship has existed since 1987. At present, almost 1,000 active players are licensed by the SBSF.
National teams and club teams travel regularly to European championships or European cup tournaments. Since the renovation of the Heerenschürli sports complex in Zurich-Schwamendingen in 2009, Swiss baseball has had a modern stadium that complies with international rules and serves as a national center of excellence and represents a milestone in the history of Swiss baseball. It is also home to the four Zurich city clubs Barracudas, Challengers, Eighters and Lions.
