The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo ( Japanese 東京 国立 近代 美術館 , Tōkyō kokuritsu kindai bijutsukan ); internationally also MOMAT, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo is an art museum opened in 1952 in the Chiyoda district of Tokyo .

The collection ranges from works from the Meiji period to contemporary art.

In 1967 the museum moved to a new building designed by the architect Yoshiro Taniguchi . The old building in the Chūō district was rebuilt and now houses the film history department ( Film Center ). Also nearby is the arts and crafts department that opened in 1977 and uses the old palace guard building.

The neighboring building houses the National Archives .
