Basse-Casamance National Park

The Basse-Casamance National Park is located in southern Senegal in the Casamance and is one of six national parks in Senegal.

Geographical location

The national park is located near the border with Guinea-Bissau in the area of ​​the rural community Santhiaba-Manjaque in the Oussouye department a good 12 kilometers south of Oussouye on the road to Kabrousse and Cap Skirring in the Casamance region.

history

The national park was temporarily occupied by rebels in the course of the Casamance conflict in the 1990s . As a result, it has been closed for some time and is not accessible to tourists, as large parts of the infrastructure have been destroyed.

Flora and fauna

The 35 km² park consists of large wet savannahs and dense forests that are criss-crossed by waterways. The animals living here include 200 different species of birds and around 50 different species of mammals such as leopard , African forest buffalo and western red colobus .
