Oussouye is a city in southern Senegal . It is prefecture of the Oussouye department in the Ziguinchor region .

Geographical location

Oussouye is located in the southwest of the Casamance between the Casamance River in the north, the Atlantic in the west and the border with Guinea-Bissau in the south.

To the east is the regional prefecture of Ziguinchor, 30 kilometers away . Oussouye is separated from this by the Kamobeul Bolong , which extends as a strongly meandering Casamance tributary and a tributary exposed to the tidal currents with its amphibious mangrove shoreline to Guinea-Bissau. From this, the Oussouye Bolong branches off, which extends from the east to the southern outskirts.

It is 15 km to Guinea-Bissau in the south. The city is located 24 km inland from the Atlantic at Cap Skirring . Apart from the mangrove area in the east, Oussouye is surrounded on all sides by classified forest areas, which are joined by the Basse-Casamance National Park in the south .

traffic

Oussouye is the hub for all national road traffic from and to the Oussouye department because of its geographical peripheral location in the southwest of the Ziguinchor region. There is only one road, the R20, which spans the Kamobeul Bolong with a 350-meter-long bridge and crosses its eight-kilometer-wide amphibious bank zone on a dam, and it leads through Oussouye on its way to the Atlantic.
