Erebuni National Park

The National Park Erebuni ( Armenian Էրեբունի պետական արգելոց ) is a 120 hectares large National Park in Armenia , the kilometers southeast to 10 the Armenian capital Yerevan in the province of Kotayk is. The national park is 1,300–1,450 m above sea level and forms a transition zone between semi-desert and high steppe .

Erebuni was founded in 1981 in the area of the villages of Mushaghbyur and Geghadir and originally had a size of 99 hectares , but was subsequently expanded by 33 hectares. With the creation of the park, the intention was to protect and preserve naturally occurring, wild cereals in their original environment in addition to the diverse fauna and flora in that area.

The Erebuni National Park is particularly known for the occurrence of wild grain species. In addition to the wheat varieties Triticum araraticum and Triticum urartu, there are rye, wild barley varieties and a large number of protected and endemic plants such as sweet grass and irises ( Iris elegantissima ) , which are entered on the Red List of Endangered Species .
The national park offers amphibians such as the Green Toad (green toad), the marsh frog ( Rana ridibunda ), the tree frog , the pelobates syriacus and reptiles, different types of Mediterranean turtles and birds a home.
