The National Park Mont Péko (French Parc national du Mont Péko ) in the west of the Ivory Coast is a scenic area of ​​340 km², which is 40 to 1000 m above sea level . The highest point is Mount Péko, from which the park takes its name.

The national park is located in the ecoregion of the Guinean rainforest. 1700 mm of rain falls here between May and October. The Sassandra River with its tributaries holds water for the animals all year round.

The Mont-Péko National Park is mainly home to buffalo , hippopotamus , some species of monkeys , including chimpanzees , and forest duikers . There were also Pel-anomalure and black duiker sighted. In 1998 a population of white-necked wilted crows ( Picathartes gymnocephalus ) was discovered. There are also leopards , crocodiles and various birds, such as the Melaenornis annamarulae , which is classified as endangered by the IUCN , possibly the also endangered Criniger olivaceus and the Senegalliest . Many specimens of the reed frog Kassina schioetzi have been found in the northern rainforest zone of the park, and Kassina arboricola is also found in the park.

Visitors can stay at the hotels in Abidjan or Douékoué, a few kilometers away, and take the paved road between the cities to get to the national park.

The Ministry of Water and Forests (English Ministry of Water and Forests , French Ministère des Eaux et Forêts ) is responsible for the protected areas of the Ivory Coast .
