The Senegalliest ( Halcyon senegalensis ) is a kingfisher that lives in tropical Africa .
features
The 23 cm long Senegalliest is bright blue on the back, tail and wing. The head, neck and underside are white and the shoulder black. The large beak is red above and black below. The legs are red. Both sexes look similar, the young are a little less colorful. The call of this bird is a loud trill.
habitat
The Senegalliest lives mainly on the equator within the two 8th parallel. The northern and southern populations migrate to the equator in the dry season. He lives in forest areas with some trees and also near human settlements. The bird defends its territory against intruders, including humans.
Reproduction
The Senegalliest breeds in tree hollows created by woodpeckers . The clutch consists of two to three round white eggs that are incubated for 13-14 days. Both parent birds feed the young. After the nestling period of 22 to 24 days, the young birds stay with their parents for around five weeks.
food
From a seat guard in partial shade, he hunts large insects, arthropods, snails, fish and frogs.
