The national park Schazk (Ukrainian Шацький національний природний парк / Schazkyj nazionalnyj pryrodnyj park ) in Ukraine originally comprised 32,515 ha. In 1999 it was expanded to 48,977 ha, named after the small town of Schazk in the area . The national park is bordered by the following rivers: from the Pischa in the north to the Samiilytschi in the south and from the Pulemez in the west to the Prypiat in the east. It is divided into four different protection zones with different protection regulations. The wealth of the park are 24 lakes with a total area of 6400 hectares, which makes up about 14% of the total area; the largest is Lake Switjas . More than half of the park is covered by forests, mostly conifers. 4% of the park is made up of bogs, which mainly occur near the lakes. The largest peat bog complex is in the eastern part of the park. Around 7% of the area is grassland and 25% arable land. The park is counted among the Pripjet swamps.
At the beginning of the Second World War, the Battle of Szack took place here.
