The Battle of Szack took place on September 28, 1939, after the Soviet troops marched into Poland near the small town of Schazk ( Szack in Polish ), which is now part of the Ukraine .

On the morning of September 28th, units of the Polish Border Guard Corps under Brigadier General Wilhelm Orlik-Rückemann attacked the city ​​occupied by the Red Army . Around noon it was recaptured after bloody fighting. In the afternoon, while pursuing the remaining units of the Soviet 52nd Rifle Division, the Polish units captured several villages in the area. The next day, the Border Guard destroyed the advance guard of another Soviet division and then withdrew over the Bug . The Poles lost 350 soldiers in the battle, the Soviets 500 men and seven tanks and several armored transports.
