Overall situation

The Battle of Kock took place during the Second World War between October 2nd and 5th, 1939 near the small town of Kock in central Poland. It was the last battle of the attack on Poland or the Polish campaign . Units of the Polish "Independent Operations Group Polesien " (Polish Samodzielna Grupa Operacyjna Polesie ) under General Franciszek Kleeberg (1888-1941) fought against units of the German XIV Motorized Corps under General Gustav von Wietersheim . The battle ended with a Polish victory on the morning of October 5th. Due to the hopeless overall situation at the front and the exhaustion of ammunition stocks, the surrender of the Polish units took place on October 6th . With the end of the fighting, 17,000 Polish soldiers became German prisoners of war .
