The Battle of Radom (also known as the Battle of Iłża ) occurred during the Second World War from September 8 to 9, 1939. Polish troops of the Prusy Army under the command of Colonel Muzyka, who cut off the retreat across the Vistula by German tank units was, were encircled in the area around the central Polish town of Radom . The Polish troops defended the area of ​​the city of Iłża and a section of the road from Sandomierz to Radom. On September 9, the last position of the Polish infantry units was taken in a medieval castle on a hill above the town of Iłża. Only a few units of the enclosed Polish Army Prusy had managed to break out of the pocket in the direction of Warsaw or across the Vistula River. Around 60,000 Polish soldiers were taken prisoner by Germany.
