Berthold von Helfenstein

Berthold von Helfenstein († August 25, 1233, presumably near Rueun ) was bishop of Chur from 1228 until his death .

Berthold was a canon in Constance and was elected Bishop of Chur by the cathedral chapter in 1228 . He tried to keep the bishopric, won back the vice dominates Sevelen and Zizers in 1228 and defended his rights in the Lower Engadine and Vinschgau against the Counts of Tyrol . He promoted the monasteries, such as the Premonstratensian of St. Luzi in Chur and the hospice of Müstair . Berthold was to be found several times in the entourage of Friedrich II. And Heinrich VII. And participated in several Reichstag. On August 25, 1233, he was probably murdered near Rueun .
