Ulrich von Kyburg

Ulrich von Kyburg († June 17, 1237 in Chur ) was Bishop of Chur from 1233/34 until his death .

Ulrich came from the wealthy family of the Counts of Kyburg in northern Switzerland . His parents were Count Ulrich III. von Kyburg and Anna von Zähringen , a daughter of Berthold IV , Duke of Zähringen. His sister Heilwig was the mother of King Rudolf von Habsburg . He was canon in Constance in 1229 , and later also in Basel . Heinrich VII appointed him imperial court chaplain and provost of Beromünster in 1231 . He was elected bishop of Chur canon in 1233 or 1234. Pope Gregory IX allowed him in 1234 to keep his previous benefits . The episcopal ordination took place before November 25, 1234. He was a co-founder of the Heiligenberg Abbey near Winterthur .
