National Council of South Cameroon

The National Council of South Cameroon ( English Southern Cameroons National Council , French Conseil national du Cameroun du Sud , SCNC for short ) is a non-violent secessionist organization that advocates self-determination and after the independence of the Anglophone South Cameroon (Ambazonia, former British Cameroon ) from the Francophone part of the Republic of Cameroon ( La République de Cameroun ).

In 1999 the National Council of South Cameroon declared independence from Ambazonia . In 1999 and 2000 there were demonstrations and also riots by the secessionists. In 2001 a group of exiled members of the National Council of South Cameroon founded a so-called “Embassy of South Cameroon” in the German city of Frankfurt . The leader of the group asked about a German military intervention on the grounds that Germany knows the country well .

Since 2004 the National Council has been a member of the Organization of Unrepresented Nations and Peoples on behalf of South Cameroon .

The National Council of South Cameroon is a non-violent organization and its motto is: "The power of argument, not the argument of power." The current chairman is the chief Ayamba Ette Otun . Since the National Council of South Cameroon justifies the split from Francophone Cameroon, the Paul Biya government declared it to be an illegal organization. Security forces regularly interrupt meetings of the National Council of South Cameroon and arrest members. They are typically taken into custody for several days.
