The National Highway 4 is a highway of the top category in Syria .

It leads from Aleppo to the east almost to the Tabqa Dam and then continues to the southeast along the right side of the Euphrates . It runs through Maskanah , south of at-Tabqa and south of ar-Raqqa , west of Deir ez-Zor and ends south of Abu Kamal at the al-Qa'im border crossing on the border between Iraq and Syria . From there, the route in Iraq continues on Highway 12 via Haditha and Ramadi to Baghdad .
