history

Origins

The oldest branch in Baumgarten is Tölzkirchen. In 827 the name appears as Tenileschirihun , 1022 as Tenineschirichen , 1315 as Tenneiskirchen , 1560 as Delskirchen and finally in 1739 as Tenzelskirchen . The shape of Tölzkirchen is more recent. The name means something like "Church of Tenil (= Daniel)". The church must have existed with this name as early as 827. She was formerly dedicated to St. John consecrated (1524 and 1739 so called), now St. Michael their patron. The high altar used to be under the tower. This is massive and without any structure, so it can be assigned to the Romanesque period around 1100–1200. In 1781 lightning struck the tower and destroyed the original crown. After the First World War, the villagers raised the top floor of the tower themselves.

Structural extensions

The church had become much too small over time and was therefore extended in 1844. But that only helped temporarily. In 1916 the ordinariate advised the establishment of a church building association. The architect Theodor Mayr drew up the plans for a new building in 1923, for both Tölzkirchen and Baumgarten, and construction began at the same time in 1924. On the instructions of the State Office for Monument Preservation, the old tower had to be left standing and the church, which was originally facing east, had to be given a new southward direction. A large nave was built with an apse for the high altar on it. The sacristy was located between the apse and the old tower.

The interior of the church

Inside, the church looks similar to its sister in Baumgarten, only here the new choir room comes into its own. The church has always had three altars: in 1739 the high altar was the two hll. Johannes, the side altars the hll. Consecrated to Michael and Dionys. In 1817 the high altar had an image of Our Lady as a refuge for sinners and the side altars were considered to be Saints. Florian and Michael. In 1844 the old rococo altars were redesigned, but later replaced by neo-Gothic structures. Since 1930 the high altar has been skillfully put together from old Rococo pieces.

The old high altar room with its cross vault on consoles has been preserved under the tower and is added to the church as a side chapel. The former neo-Gothic high altar still stands in it. Next to this chapel is the pulpit of the old church, it was built around 1850 with some baroque pieces. The Way of the Cross was acquired in 1884 by the Munich artist Simon for 1400 marks.

The new building in Tölzkirchen had to go through the same thing as Baumgarten's, and it too threatened to collapse in 1932. In 1933 a new roof structure had to be put on. As in Baumgarten Rabitz, the arch has the shape of a wide-pressed barrel. In 1933 a vestibule was added to the north. The gallery has a wooden parapet and is too bulged towards the center of the church. The girders of the gallery are designed to be quite light for the heavy load.
