Nature and Environment Prize of the Nordic Council

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nordic Council's Nature and Environment Prize is awarded every autumn at the meeting of the Nordic Council , a forum for the Nordic countries - together with the film , literature and music prize .

The nature and environment prize has been awarded since 1995 and, at 350,000 Danish kroner (47,000 euros), is as high as the other prizes. It is intended to raise awareness about nature and environmental work in the north and is aimed at Nordic organizations, companies or private individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to nature and the environment.

First, organizations and private individuals are asked to submit proposals in which the candidates meet the criteria of a topic that changes every year - for example in the areas of energy saving, sustainability or preservation of the cultural landscape. The next step is to appoint the national candidates.

National committees propose two candidates from each country or autonomous region for the final. There a thirteen-member "Nordic Judging Committee" then selects the winner. This committee consists of two representatives each from Denmark , Finland , Iceland , Norway and Sweden and one representative each from the autonomous regions of Åland , Faroe Islands and Greenland .

The award is administered by the secretariat of the Danish delegation to the Nordic Council, which is based in the Folketing , the Danish parliament in Copenhagen .
