Höveler Knapp natural monument

The Höveler Knapp natural monument with a size of 0.45 hectares is located south of Hövel in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan . The ND Höveler Knapp is a former quarry .

Object description

The quarry is surrounded by forest and is located on the Höveler Knapp mountain . The quarry wall consists of Kulm Plattenkalk from the Lower Carboniferous . Black lydites are visible in the lower wall area . Individual mineralizations of quartz , barite and copper can be seen in the rock face . The ND is often visited by amateur geologists. In 2014 the quarry was mostly overgrown with trees.
