The natural monument special fold south-south-west Hövel with a size of 0.2 ha is located on the south-western edge of the village of Hövel in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a natural monument by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan . It is a former quarry .

Object description

The quarry wall consists of lump limestone from the Upper Devonian and silica slate from the Lower Carboniferous . The rock layers are visible in a special fold. The quarry wall is located on the premises of the Hönnetaler chain factory. The rock face is visible from the road between Hövel and Balve . The lower edge of the rock face was impaired by the build-up of rubbish and soil at the time it was declared.

Two commandments were set for the protection expulsion. On the one hand, the deposits of garbage and soil should be removed. Second, trees in front of the rock face should be removed every 10 to 12 years in order to keep the rock face visible.
