The Leonstein (also Leostein) is located in the municipality of Klam in the Perg district in Upper Austria in the Klamschlucht .

description

The Leonstein is a natural formation that has been designated as a natural monument since 1984 at the northern entrance of the Klam Gorge near the Bergmayr mill next to a hiking trail around half a kilometer south of the center of Klam.

It is an isolated, about 15 meter high wool sack weathering in the form of a rock tower , which was modeled by the eroding power of the water and takes up an area of about 50 square meters. The rock tower is part of the Burg Clam rising escarpment and ash and pine plantation surrounded. Other rock formations in the vicinity do not come close to the Leonstein in terms of their formation and size. Due to the meeting of different magnetic rocks (coarse and fine-grained granites ) the Leonstein is also of scientific importance.
